Tailored Learning

The Pathways Centre

The Pathway Centre is an off-site alternative learning centre attached to Kadina Memorial School. It is staffed with teachers and non-teaching staff for 30 lessons per week and provides a safe, respectful learning environment for a wide range of students with alternative learning needs. It is located directly over the road from Kadina Memorial School’s main entrance, and is situated next door to the First Nations Room.

Facilities include an art/wet area, a large modern carpeted classroom area, a private meeting room, a Case Management room, uni-sex toilet facilities, and a paved outside area with barbecue and a three holed mini golf course (developed and built by students).

Staff members working in the Pathway Centre have been selected because of their expertise in certain curriculum areas, and their ability to be able to form positive working relationships with such students.

Students who attend the Pathways Centre are referred by sub-school leaders, and attend for a wide variety of reasons. Some are Tailored Learning students, whilst others have social, emotional, well-being and learning needs best suited in a non-mainstream setting. Case Management for many of our students also occurs there. Tailored Learning Funding continues to support the Case Management of our students and many of the programs they are involved with. Strong links exist between Pathway Centre Staff and service providers from Yorke Youth Services and United Care Wesley.

Learning options in the Pathway Centre vary greatly. Students access Essential English, Essential Maths, PLP, Research Project, Integrated Learning Units, Building and Construction and Art and Craft. Many of our students are part-time students working on mainstream subjects. Some are completing Certificate courses through TAFE. To cater for students who find it difficult to attend during normal school hours, after-school sessions run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00pm.
